Dispersion of Light- Note XI

Dispersion of light

Dispersion of Light refers to the phenomenon where white light is split into its constituent colors when passed through a prism. The different colors of light (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet) each have different wavelengths, which causes them to bend by different amounts, creating the rainbow effect.

In this note, you will learn:

  • The concept of dispersion
  • The behavior of light as it passes through a prism
  • The dispersion spectrum
  • Applications of dispersion
